Our Problem Statement:
CO2 as a whole has become a big problem in our modern society and leads to climate change. Furthermore, the exhaustion from buses is even more impactful than most other vehicles and can cause many respiratory problems.
School Bus Pollution:
Buses emit on average 822 g/km of CO2 in the UK Buses are a good way to help reduce, as they are a public transportation source and so less cars on the road, meaning by limiting the CO2 emissions of a bus, we are helping significantly in terms of CO2 consumption per person. We always want the best for the youth and it is important that we assure them a healthy life. If all of these kids were to ingest these toxins, it would be catastrophic for the health and personal well being. By reducing the amount of pollution emitted by busses, we would be making Coppell a better and cleaner environment for all of its people to enjoy.
Our Own School Buses In Coppell
Are Part of This Problem As Well
According to the Texas School Health Advisory Committee, more than 95% of our Texas school buses are running on diesel, one of the worst ways to contribute to pollution (see current issues for more details). Furthermore, children are 7-70 times more likely to inhale some diesel exhaust than some living just in an urban area. Furthermore, idle school buses in our area, after 3 minutes, generate “66 percent more particle pollution then when it is shut off and restarted” [22]. This idea of shutting it off is especially useful when thinking of a solution to this problem as well as it helps us understand that idle buses tend to be a big contributing factor to this issue.
