Student Interview:
An interview was conducted with a student, Amshu Pudhota, who takes the bus regularly during the school day (prior to COVID) and has asthma.
Question: How severe is your asthma?
Answer: It’s fine most of the time, it used to be worse in the past, now it only comes up if I breathe too much smoke or stuff.
Question: Would you say that overall air quality in Coppell is good for your asthma?
Answer: Overall, yes, however, like I said, when I get in an area with smoke or some sort of carbon dioxide output it spikes and I start coughing a lot more.
Question: How often do you take the bus to school, prior to COVID-19?
Answer: Last year, I took it almost everyday except those few days I stayed after school for some club meeting.
Question: Would you say our bus emissions of smoke has contributed to your asthmatic symptoms?
Answer: I’m not too sure, I do sometimes cough a lot more while exiting the bus as it passes by me due to its output, but some days it’s also fine. I think when my allergies are already bad, it just makes it worse.
Explanation: As you can see, the student claimed that when he exited the bus he did in fact start coughing a lot more due to the bus. While he did also say it didn’t necessarily immediately cause it, it definitely did contribute to it and if we don’t put an end to it, it will only get worse.
